Dear Host Family,
My name is Elisabeth. I am a 16 year old girl. My
family is a protestantic Christian family. It
consists of my mom and dad, my four brothers, one
older, and three younger. We are connected,
encouraging and open with each other. I really
love big families! But there would also be cool to
have some time off from noisy little brothers.
Four years ago I quit horseback riding and started
to play soccer. I love playing soccer, and my team
has been on training camps three times in Spain. I
also love to sing, draw, be creative and active. I
have a passion for travelling - exploring other
countries, meet new people, go to church, hang out
with friends, being social, read a good book in my
room with candles, a blanket and a good cup of
tea. I am not afraid to taste new food and try out
new things. We Norwegians love to go to warmer
countries, because it is so cold here in the
winter.
I really wish for a family that is kind and wants
to take good care of me. I very well know that no
families are perfect, but I hope that you are
persons who, like me, loves to meet new people,
and also new cultures (because that is what I am
taking with me). It is so cool that you wish to be
hosts for an exchange student. I think I will do
the same when I grow up. It would have been great
if you shared the same beliefs as me, but off
course it is okey if you don't.
My favourite subject in school is English, History
and PE. I have learned France for three years now,
but English for more than 10 years. In Norway
almost every TV show are English spoken. So the
language flows naturally to me - through music,
advertisements and commercials, TV, Internet,
movies and books. Only Disney Channel and other
children channels are dubbed to Norwegian.
I am a spontaneous and positive girl, who loves to
laugh, and you will rarely see me sad and angry! I
would say that I am very down to earth, easy-going
and relaxed girl, yet one who loves to have fun
and likes it when many things happen at the same
time. My friends would describe me as a kind,
helpful and patient girl.
In Norway we don't have Thanksgiving. I think that
is so sad, because we have so many things to be
thankful for. Norway is such a rich and beautiful
country. I am especially looking forward to that
day, and also 4'h. Of July. Our country does have
a national day (17ffi. of May), as America, and I
think we celebrates it even more as you Americans
do. Even though I know America is famous for
celebrating things, our national day is something
very, very special to Norwegians. The day is
particularly dedicated to the children, who
celebrates it with eat as much as ice cream and
hotdogs as you like)) and parades with happy
children shouting ((Hurray for Norway)).
I hope my time in The United States of America
will unite me to the country and the family I will
live with. A week ago I thought about how sad I
will be when my time is up, and I have to say
goodbye to my new family and friends in America,
pack my bags and go home. I almost started to cry,
because I was seeing myself crying in the future.
I hope this will not only be a great experience
for me, but also for my family! America is the
promised land>>, and I think I know much more
about it than many of my friends do. I often talk
about America, and sometimes I even think in
English instead of Norwegian.
I have the biggest butterflies in my stomach right
now. I am so excited! Ever since 9th Grade I have
wanted to be an exchange student.
Sincerely yours,
Elisabeth
