Dear Host Family,
Here is a little letter for you to get to know me
a bit better! My name is Kari and Im from Norway.
As Im writing this Im looking forward to begin at
my first high school year. Ive always enjoyed
school, so I can honestly say that I everyday go
there with an attitude open and ready to learn new
things. I see myself as an independent person, who
likes to gain knowledge by myself. That is one of
the main reasons why I want to study a year in the
USA; I want to live and breathe a new language and
learn about the culture by being a part of it. A
year abroad is an excellent opportunity to learn
how to handle new situations and challenges, and
Im so excited and ready for a whole different
year! My biggest passion and hobby are
snowboarding, but I want to experience so much
more than what is right in front me, I want to
experience something totally different and I love
to just throw myself into it. Today, as Im writing
this, I actually bought a longboard, because I
just couldnt wait any longer to ride my board. I
just love the feeling, and you can say that Im
quite into board sports. But, some of my wishes
are to grow up a bit and not be able to do
everything that Im used to, so I'm ready for
something new too!
People tell me that my biggest qualities are that
Im open and positive to try new things, such as
new sports and hobbies. I think life is about
taking chances and see where theyll lead you. Im
also a very hardworking person, I dont give up
easily, and I work hard to reach the goals that I
set. In my free time Im very seldom bored, I call
my friends to hang out or I go jogging or
snowboarding in the winter. I also spend much time
on the computer where I love to listen to and
explore new music (although Im not blessed with
any musical talents at all!), edit photos and
film, blog, and keep in contact with friends and
so on. Im really looking forward to meet new
people and friends, and just talk, laugh and learn
new things from them. I believe that everyone has
a story, and we should all learn from each other,
especially from various cultures. With my friends,
Im usually the one who laughs highest and makes
many jokes; people can easily recognize my often
heard laughter! I believe that is a good thing? To
people I dont know I can appear a bit shy, but
after a while people has forgot all about the
shyness in their descriptions of me! I think the
fact that Im the youngest of three siblings has
made me very independent. Im very proud of my
brothers and family, and my passion about film,
photography and snowboarding Ive got from them.
Among many other friends, I also have a very best
friend who is like a sister to me. Many people
tell us that were contrasts, and I think that is
one of the reasons why we have so much fun,
learning and laughing together.
In regards to my future I havent made a definite
decision yet, but I know that a suitable job for
me would contain traveling and language. I think a
year as an exchange student will be very
educational with a view on my choice of career.
Ive had a job since I was 15. Becoming an exchange
student has always been a dream of mine, and Im so
excited its finally happening! Thanks for reading
all about me and I hope to be hearing more from
you in the coming months!
Sincerely yours,
Kari
