Dear Host Family,
First of all I want to thank you for taking the
time to read through my application and just the
fact that you are thinking about hosting me for
such a long time.
I will be really pleased if you decide to offer me
the possibility to realize my year abroad, which
had been already a long time my dream. I decided
to go to the USA because the country is
fascinating me. I have already been to the
south-west of the USA for one month four years
ago, but there I have only seen a few aspects of
the country and these as a tourist. Now I think it
is an amazing chance for me to detect the American
culture even more with all its awesome facets.
The integration of myself in a new family and the
visit of an American high school are the two
things I am mostly looking forward to. Since I
believe that I am an open-minded and warm-hearted
girl, I assume that this exchange year would be a
nice experience for both sides- the family and me-
and I really hope that our relationship will be
just as in a "normal", relative family. Thereby I
would be glad to take up new American customs and
perhaps I can also introduce the German/ Europeen
culture a little bit to you.
For example I would enjoy to make excursions with
my new family and friends, like going to the
cinema or theatre, visiting a museum, having
dinner together or just playing cards together.
Because I involve myself gladly in school issues
for the youngers with our school council group and
the fact that I am a "class-godmother", which is a
person in position of trust for the new students
and supervising them during breaks for example, I
could imagine very well to have younger or older
brothers or sisters.
Though my commitment in school I believe that
things like "school spirit" and the full-time
education are totally missed here in Germany and
this is why I cannot wait to get to know the
American high school! What I also find outstanding
are the offers of American high schools for the
afternoons. I am dancing ballet twice a week and
acting in our schools drama club and I would be
glad if the school will offer the opportunity to
continue to do them. But if not, I am sure that
there'll be other amazing alternatives for me.
Other things I like to do in my spare time here in
Germany are sailing, designing, reading, listening
to music, singing, shopping and of course meeting
my friends. Furthermore I am really interested in
photography. With my camera I love to take photos
and I am sure my new environment will give me some
beautiful motives!
On the whole I am sure this year will be an
unforgettable and amazing experience, which one
gets only one time in his life. It will boost my
character, improve my english language skills,
make me more independent and give me an
incomparable insight into a different culture.
I would be very pleased if you chose me, `cause I
bet that we will enjoy our time together!
Sincerely yours,
Andrea
