Dear Host Family,
First of all I want to express my thanks to you
that you take your time to get know more about me
and my family. If I am lucky you will give me the
opportunity to become an exchange student in the
US for a year. So I could take part in your daily
life and family. I have been looking forward to
it for several years. And now one of my dreams
come true.
So now the story of the little girl about herself,
her family & friends and what she expects of her
stay in the USA begins.
My name is Thanh and I am a kind 16 year-old girl
who lives with her mum and her dad in Germany. I
am a student in the 11th grade at a comprehensive
school. My favorite subjects are English and
French, geography and history.
Well, now Id like to introduce my family to you.
The head in the family is my dad who is 51 years
old. The last but not least part of my family is
my brother. He is 27 years old and studies. As
both of us were younger we were like cat and mouse
although I was the younger than my brother but of
course I was the cat. But actually we have a very
good relationship. My brother is such a great and
big help for me. I also have a very good
relationship with my parents. They are the most
important part of my life. However my friends
have an important part too. No matter which
problems I have, I can always turn to my friends
and they will listen to me.
You may have noticed that my name is not really
German. Then you are right. My parents came from
Vietnam where my brother also lived until he was
9. I was born after my family came to Germany.
Already in young years, I had to assume the
responsibility to myself because my parents had to
work. Therefore they can make things possible for
me like this one yea in America for which I am
very thankful. But they make a point of helping
in the household like cleaning up, washing dishes
and cooking. I guess I am pretty grown-up
teenager who has concrete ideas about the future.
My hobbies are similar to interests at school. I
am an open minded and adventuresome person who
love traveling and to seeing many things so that I
can broaden my horizon in all direction. I also
like to learning foreign languages. So at the
moment I am able to speak Vietnamese, French,
English, German of course and now I have been
trying to learn Korean for about year. Other
favorite activities are meeting my friends,
listening to music, singing and getting to know
people from other countries on exchanges. The
exchanges overall awesome and I had a great time.
So I am sure this one in the USA will also be nice
perhaps even much better. I think this year would
be very useful for my personal and school
experience which will help me a lot in the future.
I will do my best to make this year nice for all
of us and I think that we can learn many things
from each other. I will take great efforts to
spend a successful year at an American high
school. I a really pleased to meet you and I am
very excited to live in your country as a member
of your family.
Sincerely yours,
Thanh
