Dear Host Family,
First of all, I would like to thank you for giving
me the opportunity of spending a year in your
family in the USA, where I hope to discover lots
of new, interesting things. I'm honestly looking
forward to meeting you.
My name is Maximiliane, but everybody calls me
Maxi. I'm a 15 year old girl. Together with my
parents, I live in Germany.
This letter should describe what my life is like
right now and what kind of person I am.
I would like to start by telling you why i decided
to do an exchange year in the USA.
Well, I'm a person that is interested in anything
new and unknown. Other cultures and people as well
as different languages have always been
fascinating me, e.g. during vacations or school
exchange to different countries.
Luckily, my parents support this kind of
curiosity. My dad has been to different areas of
the United States himself for business trips. He
told me a lot and I asked even more about this
impressive country. So it was easy for me to
convince my parents of my wish to spend a year in
the US. They agreed that the time as an exchange
student could be a great way to make my own
experiences.
Currently, I'm visiting the 10th grade. .
Besides the usual subjects like Math, English or
German I often stay at school during the afternoon
for some additional activities.
About two years ago, my class teacher founded the
"environment club". Every Thursday, we discuss
ways to make our school "greener", e.g. by
designing and building a new school garden.
Together with a native speaker, we discuss current
topics in English and prepare for the first exam
which I would like to pass in March.
After returning from school I do my home work,
prepare for tests etc. When I'm finished with
that, my spare time begins. During that time, I
love to laugh and simply don't take life too
serious. My friends describe me as a very open
minded, sincere person - maybe a little
creative-chaotic sometimes O.
Once I've made a decision, I like to stick to it.
I do ballet for 10.5 years now, go riding for 6
Years and went swimming for 3.5 years. But, I'm
still always open for new aspects.
On weekends, I like to simply relax. Doing
nothing, reading a book or listening to an audio
book, drawing/ painting, calling a friend and of
course listening to music are great ways to
prepare for another exhausting week of school. Of
course, I help my parents in/around the house.
Sincerely yours,
Maximiliane
