Dear Host Family,
Certainly, media can create conceptions of places
and situations that are totally different and
removed from the reality. This Is the case of
Colombia. International news creates an image of
my country that is far from true. We are
supportive and kind people, concerned about the
reality of others and with a lot of love for our
people, not disrespectful and people without
values.
Being Colombian is something that identifies me,
something that has shaped my values and
personality. Thanks to my country, I'm an
analytical and tolerant person that learned that
everyone has their point of view and must be
respect even if you don't agree with it. I begin
my presentation letter with this words because I
want you to know that I love my country and that I
would love to show others how great is this place
and this is one of my expectations of my exchange
year.
My name is Mariana. I'm 17 years old and I live
with my parents and my older brother in Colombia.
I've studied all my life in the same school and I
expect to graduate from high school next year.
I'm a very active person. I love to do a lot of
things at the same time and to be involved in all
the cultural and sportive events of my school. I
love to play tennis and volleyball. I play tennis
4 times a week; on Sunday I always go to the
tennis club with my dad because he also enjoys
playing this sport.
I'm part of the volleyball school team and I also
play futsal at the competition. I participate too
in a program that has leadership training. We
teach kids and adolescents of school how to use
their skills to turn themselves into leaders. This
is one of the most important activities in which I
participate because I believe that this world
without leaders won't turn any better and if I
have the opportunity to teach and give others what
I have I won't think it twice. Art is something
very important for me, I love dancing and singing
and also to create things with my hands and I have
the privilege that my city is a place where
culture is at the air, so I spend my weekends
going to theater, dancing presentations or music
festivals with my closer friends or family.
Another thing I like to do on my weekend is
spending time with my friends watching movies,
playing cards or at the swimming pool.
I listen to music all day; it's something that
cheers me up. I like rock, punk, R&B, Hip Hop and
tango music although I listen all class of music.
My brother is the one who taught me to listened
different class of music because it's very popular
the reggeaton, salsa and merengue and people is a
little bit closed to other trends.
I like to travel a lot. At my 15 birthday I had
the opportunity to travel with my mom to Europe.
It was a fantastic experience and an awesome trip.
I enjoy meeting new cultures, learning from their
habits and share knowledge and also to learn from
other lifestyles, this is one of the reasons why I
want to have an exchange experience, I want to
know how life is in the USA, meet new kind of
people and do new activities.
Sincerely yours,
Mariana
