YES Activities and Special Events
Boulder Leadership Summit
Organized by consortium partner Sister Cities International, this summit is held in Boulder, Colorado in April. Participation is competition-based and is open to YES students only. Activities typically include an interactive leadership jam and a team-building ropes course challenge. The Boulder Valley School District provides key support, arranging host families and transportation, as well as meeting space. A roundtable discussion with key government officials highlights key leadership concepts from the Summit.
International Education Week*
All YES students are required to make a presentation about their home countries during International Education Week (IEW). It's best if this presentation can be made at a school (high school, middle school or elementary school). In addition to schools, students can make presentations to church or community groups – some students have even had radio and TV interviews! International Education Week is a joint initiative of the US Department of State and US Department of Education – be sure to let your local media know that your students are participating. All students must report on their IEW presentations using the appropriate form. For more information on IEW, please visit http://exchanges.state.gov/iew/

Global Youth Service Day*
National/Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world. It is held each year in mid-April and is presented by Youth Service America in conjunction with PARADE Magazine and many major corporate sponsors. All YES Clusters must participate in Global Youth Service Day by organizing a group project. Clusters will report on their projects while they are being planned and after they take place. Many resources are available to assist with this through Youth Service America. For more information, please visit www.ysa.org/nysd.
